I stand at the bow, ship's port side in view,
My possessions in tow, I'm thinking of you.
I'm about to set sail, crossing lifes blue sea,
Beginning's and ending's, towards what will be.
You couldn't come with me, our future unsure,
A light in my life, now dark and obscure.
I lean on the rail, salt wind in my hair,
Sweet freedom, sweet freedom, but I don't seem to care.
Down deep in my heart, a dull saddened pain,
She wed another, no need to explain.
I had my chances to keep her near,
Now fading memories, are blurred by a tear.
So the plans are complete, I head out to sea.
She is with her's, I am with me.
I can never return, as she fades from my view,
Against an empty blue sky, where loves dove once flew.
Do we forget, at the end of our day's,
The hearts that we loved, that bended our way's ?
Love grows in a new field, on a far distant shore,
Is it all the same, be it less, be it more ?
For me, I remember, the vine and the root,
The the sweet smelling flower, loves tender fruit.
But mine for a season, and under my care,
Now but a memory, seeds of quiet dispair.
So up with life's anchor, and untie the rope,
The trade winds are blowing over current's of hope !
I'll always remember our love, now and then.
But I can never, ever, go to that home again.
